Cinder Mobile OS Lets Users Send More Power To Slow Apps
alphadogg writes with this excerpt from Network World: "Stanford University researchers are designing an operating system from the ground up to handle the power and security requirements of mobile devices. The Cinder operating system is already working on an Arm chip, and members of the team are working on making it run on the HTC G1 handset, according to Philip Levis, a Stanford assistant professor. Levis spoke about Cinder at the Stanford Computer Forum on Tuesday. If an application isn't running as fast as the user wants, a Cinder-based phone could include a button to boost the energy allocated to that application, Levis said. Cinder also could allow users to download any code and run it safely on their phones in a 'sandbox' mode."http://slashdot.org/slashdot-it.pl?f.../04/15/2036230

Help!~My TV won't cut on-Moisture!

Help!~My TV won't cut on-Moisture!
  I have a Philips 30PW9100D.
Which is a Philips brand HD-TV 30" wide.
Apparently some moisture leaked on top over 24 hours ago through the
holes on the top of the TV, which I would assume is dry by now.

What happened is (when it first had the moisture in it) I tried to cut
the TV on but instead of cutting on, it went into a wierd mode showing
no screen, then the Power light on the TV blinked and the TV went dead.
The Power On button had no effect on the TV wahtsoever.

Now it has been over 24 hours so assuming the moisture (a little bit of
water was all it was) is now dry, I unplugged the TV for several
minutes, turned the Power Button On. The TV tried to cut on making a
funny light sounding noise then the Power goes completely dead until
you Unplug then Replug the TV back On.

Besides taking the big heavy TV to a repair center (which since bought
at Wal-Mart, will be hard to find, but still possible), does anyone
have any advice on how to get the Power on this TV working again?

Is the Power on this TV just locked from cutting On or is it doing this
because it still detects moisture inside----or is it just plain
completely ruined?

Anyone who can shed some light on the situation, please do.

Well, in my case the MACRO, MACRO2 and L1-L4 keys are "every mode" keys.
And for me the L1-L4 keys really are more useful as macro buttons.

Yes, but I don't need just one button from an already supported remote.
A PIP button is just a matter of knowing its code and assigning it with
a 994 keymove. I would want a whole remote's worth of codes, at which
point there is a limited amount of space to store everything.

On the other hand, I recall that OFA remotes have fixed spaces for
different types of stuff, so even if I run out of keymoves (which I've
done before when I had extra keymoves lying around somewhere), that
still shouldn't affect the learning key space.

I think in this case I can get by with just the channel up/down and
aspect ratio buttons, so I'll try that.

Hilfe! Update + Email

You'll probably be getting a message that the device is incorrect???

For this you will need a fix of the file VoUpgradeUt.exe. it's on this MoDaCo post:

http://www.modaco.com/index.php?showtopic=113705

Furthermore, the linkt to the latest Imate Smartphone2 rom is here:
http://www.clubimate.com/Support/RUU...1.11.15.32.zip

Run the update WITHOUT the phone in the cradle (after you sync-ed it of course) and select the second option of unpacking all files to a specified directory. When done exit the update.

Remove the VoUpgradeUi.exe and replace it with the fixed VoUpgrade from MoDaCo.
Now Restart your Xphone, E200 or whatever you have in CANARY mode
(turn phone off then push and hold camera button, then at same time push and hold power button)
and wait till you see the red green blue coulored screen.
Put your Phone in the cradle and wait for connetion then start the upgrade by clicking on the new VoUpgrade file from modaco. Sit back and relax. :D

PS3 firmwareupdate ab und fährt nicht mehr hoch

Zitat:

EDIT:

Spoiler: Place your PS3 in STANDBY mode
Hold the power button until you hear 2 beeps.
If it goes into the video reset setting then you messed up, and do it again till you hear a double beep.

Control+Option+Power Button

PRAM löschen:
Command+Option+P+R -> Rechner macht keine autom. Restart

SingleUser Mode:

Ruby,

Is this a typical side effect of getting ride of Vundo or just something I did silly ? I forced a power button restart, then it complain about 'missing or corrupted file' - c:windowssystemvgaoem.fnt. I cannot fix that as I don't have the restoration disk.

no, no no!!! to install without freezing go into safe mode. hold down your power button on the front/side of your pc until it cuts out. now boot it up, after the motherboard screen comes up (the first thing you see) there will be a selection screen, select safe mode using the arrow keys and the enter key. if you see the login screen you have missed it.

Sleep mode with internal HD

Sleep mode with internal HD
  Hi All,

I've made a test with my internal 3.5 SATA HD yesterday....I tried to connect it to the back USB port via an adapter and I've seen a different behaviour with the power button !!

With the internal HD connected internally, when I press the power button the Vantage makes a complete power off, then the boot time is about 1 minute long, which is a big pain.

With the HD connected to the USB port, when I press the power button the Vantage goes into sleep mode !
Then the boot time for the power on is immediate !!

Does anyone has seen this behaviour ?
Is this normal ?

There's something annoying when the unit is in sleep mode : the display displays Sleep mode and all the buttons are lit....which is quite stupid because it's more logical to have everything not lit to save power no ?

Is this something we can tune ?

Thanks,
Patrick

If you screw up a setting in engineering mode and the phone dies, there is a way to fix it with out having to completely reflash the phone. You don't need a flash backup to do this but you still need the flashing cable. In Flash Tools there is a button that says "Format" on the top bar. You click it, and it will come up with a new window. Select "Manual Format FAT" and where it says "Begin Address [Hex]" put "0x00E00000" and under "Format Length [Hex]" put "0x00200000". (That region of the phones memory stores all the settings.) Press "Ok", connect the phone to the cable with the power off and hold down the power button until the red bar goes across the screen. This will COMPLETELY RESET ALL SETTINGS TO FACTORY DEFAULTS. When you turn the phone back on it will go straight into the pen calibration screen. After that, your phone should be brand new.

Engineering mode does have a couple of good uses. I had to disable the 850mhz because my service doesn't use it and it was connecting to it forcing me to be stuck in "Emergency" even when I had reception just because the 850 signal was stronger. I also raised my audio levels for my main speaker and headphones. (Although you can blow the speakers if you go nuts with those settings.)

BREAKiNG NEWS: Hello World for 2.00-2.80 PSP Firmware!

BREAKiNG NEWS: Hello World for 2.00-2.80 PSP Firmware!
Today NOPx86 has released Hello World v1 For PSP v2.00-2.80 which is a new Proof Of Concept TIFF vulnerability that runs a 'Hello World' demo on all PSP Firmware (v2.00-2.80) capable of viewing TIFF images! To quote from the ReadMe file: "This will be made possible by a new exploit found that does not require one to own a copy of Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories, but rather load a simple image off of your MemoryStick. This remarkable demonstration can be executed on 2.0, 2.01, 2.50, 2.60, 2.70, 2.71, and 2.80 Firmware! As a result, you are now able to execute a 'Hello World' application on all PSPs with the ability to view TIFF files (2.0+). This application runs in "User Mode", but kernel mode will be achievable on all Firmware except 2.80. To execute this 'Hello World' application on your 2.0+ PSP, please follow the directions below:

- Unpack the file to your PSP's PHOTO folder
- Navigate to your PSP's PHOTO director and attempt to view the newly transferred picture

Note: You may find that the screen does not show correct (occasionally happens) - just restart your PSP (fully shutoff by holding the power button up) and open the picture again. Works on DevHook. It activates even before you select the photo, as soon as it starts to load in the photo list."

The manual specifically says it is a good idea to turn the switch to the "off" position when the camera is not in use. While in use, the camera's displays stay on for 16 seconds, then go into power-down mode; however, it only takes a light touch on the shutter button to turn the displays back on, thus inadvertently causing battery drain. I have had no battery drain problems with Aria because unless I'm taking pictures, I keep the switch off.

Depends on where the moisture went to inside. Modern TVs are never
really powered off. They always have power running through them for a
variety of reasons. One of being the remote control circuitry (So
your remote can turn on the TV). What may have happened is that the
moisture got to part of the power supply and shorted it out.

A bit of hindsight for you. When ever you have moisture getting into
any electronic device, remove the source of power immediately. Pull
the plug from the wall off turn off the breaker. Pull the batteries
out, what eve,r just stop power from going in tho the device.

That's only the 4 macro keys that produce the same functions in every
mode. The other keys can have a different function in each mode. Since
they advertise it with 4 learning keys, and even in the instructions
for them just meantin learning keys L1-L4, most people probably don't
realize that almost all the keys are really learning keys. So you program
anything you want on the thing. I found this just by trying it when I
bought it. Forinstance I program the PIP button (since I don't have PIP)
in Tivo, VCR, and RCA7000N modes to be a power button for the TV. Kind of
like 3 different Home Theater modes. I don't even use the real home
theater mode.:-)

So you can use them as macro keys too, all the more versitile if you need

Yeah, I ran out of program space too. I then went back to other modes and
deleted all the keys in those modes I didn't use. That freed up more space.
The big problem for me was my old GE vcr. So old it still records all
speeds, and it's got a ton of special functions that had to be learned. I
think i used ever button on the remote for it.

Apple iPod & iPhone

(”Make my life easier”-Button).
Hast du die 3.0.1 installiert ist ein Downgrade zur Zeit nicht möglich, da dafür der ”Make my life easier”-Button nocht nicht läuft

1.)

v1.2 mainboard - is anyone having more problems than me?

v1.2 mainboard - is anyone having more problems than me?
I've now had my 4220 for just over two weeks. I'm using with an old Hitachi 250GB SATA1 as primary on hda, and a 750GB WD 7500AAKS SATA2 drive as secondary (hdb/IDE2 ie JBOD). Both are formatted with ext2, since it seems to perform the quickest. I haven't jumpered the WD drive to SATA1 mode - I probably need to try that ASAP.

I've just found today that my mainboard is v1.2 (phew! ), but let's just say I've had a few problems:-

Of course, the spindown. At least one of my drives does spin down, but spins right back up again very quickly. I'm sure that's even worse for reliability than spinning permanently. Of course, this means I now power down the NAS when I'm not using it, which is pretty weird for a NAS !!

I've had multiple occasions where the NAS stops responding to new requests. This usually seems to happen after transferring 10gb+ to the NAS (a bit less when running a task which reads the data back to verify it). The data transfer continues, and there seems to be no corruption, even though the NAS is "not responding" when you try to browse it with Windows Explorer. The front power button and the back reboot button don't work in this situation. A temperature probe shows internal temps never exceed 42C, and nothing on the motherboard feels even very warm to the touch.

I've had several occasions where the device appeared to boot up OK, but was not accessible on the network. Seems to be OK after a reboot.

My device reset itself a couple of days ago. All shares, users and other config were lost, and the admin password reset itself back to default - basically a "factory reset". (When I re-configured the shares, the data was still available in the original directories). This was shortly after I installed Ubuntu on my PC, and now Ubuntu does not list the shares in the Windows Network (although that worked OK before, and still works OK on both Windows PCs).

So far, it's doing nothing to encourage me to trust my data on there !!!

In addition, printing from Windows PCs gives an extremely long pause before printing starts, and sometimes only prints the first page. I can't get print preview, ink level monitoring or duplex work - even though all worked perfectly when the same printer was connected directly to the USB port on the PC. Sometimes it doesn't print at all. I think that happens when the NAS is powered up after the PC.

Printing Ubuntu -> NAS works brilliantly.

cheers, Martin

PS my firmware is reported as 2.6.0-n(2007-10-11), if that's relevant. Is there a later version?

Some Info

Some Info
  If somone is interested
Today I spent some time playing with new firmware ver 1.3 for NOKIA 9800receivers.
Here is my observations ( use it with cautions becase I spent very little time investigating )
First
Using old NOKIA 9600 + DVB2000 firmware I collect data of a new firmware to a file, using SIRIUS Satelitte freg of a SVT europa channel on a PID 42 is a software for nokia 9800 and on a PID 45 is a software for NOKIA 9802 receivers ( data is recorded 28.03.2001 )
Second
Looking in to the file I discover that 11 month of programing is spent to implement functions for hd drive recording and playing ( I think that this or very similar firmware is in a new NOKIA 9902 receiver equiped with hd drive) and that functions is useless for nokia 9800
Third
Using NOKIA 9800 upgraded to ma1.3 connected to the PC using null modem cable and an terminal emulation program capable using xtransfer mode ( set baud rate to 57600 8N1 ) you can get the channel data sending this command to the NOKIA e$nxr and starting download using xmodem mode on a terminal program
Fourth
Finaly I discovered difference from previously used format, now on the first part is a table of channels ( here is a data that point to the satelitte transponder channel data) then is foloved by faforites table and finaly by the satelitte transponder chanel data. In a previously used format the part are differenty ordered.

( using commands e$nxw you can send channel data to the nokia and using e$nxf you can flash it but without success) only way to send previously collected data is to unplug nokia from ac power press power button plug ac power and when is displayed - - - - on a display unpress power button and press down arrow when is displayed slave unpress down arrov and start xmodem sending data on a terminal program!

Sorry for my not so correct english

Wartezeit

cover# usbdevs -v
Controller /dev/usb0:
addr 1: full speed, self powered, config 1, UHCI root hub(0x0000), VIA(0x0000), rev 1.00
port 1 powered
port 2 powered

Danke schonmal.
